Rolf Losansky was born in Frankfurt an der Oder on in 1931. He trained as a printer of books and studied Directing at the Academy of Film & Television (HFF)/B in Babelsberg from 1955-1960. He was an assistant director to Frank Beyer and Guenter Reisch and began directing mainly children's films at the East German DEFA feature film studios in 1962. His films, which have won numerous awards at festivals home and abroad, include "Geheimnis der 17" (1963), "Der Revolver des Korporals" (1967), "Euch werd ich's zeigen" (1971), "Ein Schneemann fuer Afrika" (1977), "Moritz in the Advertising Pillar" ("Moritz in der Litfasssaeule", 1983), "The School Ghost" ("Das Schulgespenst", 1986), "Abschiedsdisco" (1989), "Zirri - The Cloud Sheep" ("Zirri - Das Wolkenschaf", 1995), "Friedrich und der verzauberte Einbrecher" (1996) and "Hans im Glueck" (1999).
