Biography

Christoph Hochhäusler, born in Munich in 1972, studied architecture at Berlin Technical University from 1993 to 1995. Then he studied directing at the Academy of Television and Film School (HFF) in Munich from 1996 to 2004. He worked in various jobs as storyboard illustrator, sound editor and assistant director. In 1997 he co-founded "Revolver" film magazine, whose co-publisher he is till today. Besides, he wrote numerous articles on cinema for "Süddeutsche Zeitung", "png", "Cult", "Insert" and other publications.

Hochhäusler's graduation project and first feature film was "Miclchwald" ("This Very Moment", 2003), followed by "Erste Hilfe" ("First Aid", 1995), "Nachtschatten" ("Night Shadows", 1996), "Fieber" ("Fever", 1999), "Flirt" (2000), "Puls" ("Pulse", 2001), "Falscher Bekenner" ("Low Profile", 2005), the episode "Séance" from "Deutschland 09" ("Germany 09", 2009), "Unter Dir die Stadt" ("The City Below", 2010) and "Dreileben - Eine Minute Dunkel" ("Dreileben - One Minute of Darkness", 2011).

At the 2014 Rome Film Festival, "Die Lügen der Sieger" ("The Lies of the Victors") premiered. It relates the story of a journalist who investigates a political scandal. Following several more international festival screenings, the film was released in Germany in June 2015.

In the following years, Hochhäusler turned to teaching: from January 2017 to December 2021, he was a senior lecturer in the directing department at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (dffb).

In May 2022, Christoph Hochhäusler began shooting another feature film: "Bis ans Ende der Nacht" ("Till the End of the Night") tells the story of a love triangle between an undercover cop, his partner in crime, and a criminal whose trust the two are trying to gain. The movie premiered in competition at the Berlinale 2023.

Hochhäusler has published numerous film journalistic works and is one of the founders and co-editor of the film magazine "Revolver".
