Marc-Uwe Kling, born in Stuttgart in 1982, received piano and guitar lessons as a child. At the age of 20, he moved to Berlin, where he studied philosophy and theater studies. In 2003, he began performing on Berlin comedy stages and made guest appearances at stages and poetry slams throughout Germany; in 2005, together with Kolja Reichert, Maik Martschinkowsky and Sebastian Lehmann, he founded the stage for readings "Lesedüne," which focuses on system-critical humor.
Kling successfully toured with his solo program "Wenn alle Stricke reißen, kann man sich nicht mal aufhängen" between 2005 and 2008. In 2006 and 2007, he won the individual competition at the German-language poetry slam championships. In addition, he received a number of comedy awards for his stage program, for example the Grazer Kleinkunstvogel (20006), the Munich Kabarett Kaktus (2006) and the Silbernen Stuttgarter Besen (2007).
From the beginning of 2008 Kling had the radio comedy series "Neues vom Känguru" at the radio program "Fritz" of the regional broadcaster RBB, for which he received the German Radio Award in 2010. The contributions to the series resulted in the book "Die Känguru-Chroniken: Ansichten eines vorlauten Beuteltiers" ("The Kangaroo Chronicles", 2009). In 2011, the second volume "Das Känguru-Manifest" followed, and in 2014 the third volume "Die Känguru-Offenbarung." With several million copies sold, the books are among the biggest successes in contemporary literature in paperback and audiobooks. A fourth volume, "Die Känguru-Apokryphen," followed in fall 2018.
In 2020, Dani Levy's film "Die Känguru-Chroniken" was released in cinemas, for which Kling had written the screenplay. At the 2021 Bavarian Film Awards, the film won a special prize. Since November 2020, Kling and cartoonist Bernd Kissel have been publishing kangaroo comics on Zeit Online, whose protagonists are Kling and the kangaroo.
In addition, Kling continued touring with various programs and concert series, published music albums and wrote the books "Qualityland" (2017) and "Der Tag, an dem Papa ein heikles Gespräch führen wollte" (2021). His various awards include the 2012 German Cabaret Award in the comedy category, the 2013 German Audiobook Award in the Das besondere Hörbuch/Beste Unterhaltung category for "Die Känguru-Chroniken. Live und ungekürzt" and the international Jonathan Swift Award 2021 for satirical and comic literature.
In the summer of 2022, "Die Känguru-Verschwörung" was released in cinemas, directed by Kling himself.
