Biography

Camilla Guttner, born in 1982, began her career as the singer and guitarist for the band "The Last Exit" in 1999, releasing her first album, "Take Off", in 2002. From 2001 to 2007, she studied Art History, Theatre Studies, and Education in Munich while also pursuing a painting degree at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts, where she earned her diploma under Professor Sean Scully in 2007. She furthered her education in Media Art at the same academy, completing her studies in 2009.

During this time, Guttner released two additional albums with "The Last Exit" (2004, 2010), became a member of the artist collective "L'arc - der Bogen" (2006), and helped organize the "Island of Art Festival", a producer art fair in Munich (2007). Her own works were featured in various exhibitions.

In 2010, she began studying directing at the Munich University of Television and Film (HFF). While there, she created several short films, and in 2016, she directed her first feature film, the romantic drama "BlauHimmel" ("Sky Blue"), which won awards at the Yosemite International Film Festival and the Nevada International Film Festival in Las Vegas. In 2019, Guttner shot the short film "The Academy" with Franziska von Harsdorf, Andreas Lust and Jean Marc-Barr, a coming-of-age story set around the Munich Art Academy. 

After two documentary film projects, Guttner developed a feature-length film from the material of the short film "Die Akademie", again with Andreas Lust and Jean Marc-Barr in central roles. The premiere of "The Academy" took place at the Munich Film Festival 2024, the theatrical release was in March 2025. Even before, in January 2025, Maja Bons was awarded the Newcomer Award at Bayerischer Filmpreis for the lead role.
