Biography

Steffen Weinert, born in 1975 in Landsberg am Lech, gained his first practical film experience after graduating from high school through internships and as an assistant director. From 1999 to 2005 he studied screenwriting at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, where he realised several short films. His short film "Der Aufreißer" ("The Pick Up Artist", 2006) was screened at numerous international festivals and received multiple awards, such as the Short Film Award at the Wiesbaden exground Filmfest, the Audience Award at the 17th Kinofest Lünen and the renowned Murnau Short Film Award of the Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau Foundation. In 2009/10 Weinert took part in the scholarship programme 'Academy for Children's Media' in Erfurt.  

Steffen Weinert made his feature film debut with "Finn und der Weg zum Himmel" (2012, TV), a tragicomedy about a mentally challenged man in his mid-twenties, who has to stand on his own two feet after his father's death. Before it was broadcast on television, the film was shown at film festivals in Shanghai, Stuttgart and Biberach. Weinert's first novel "Die Netten schlafen allein" was published at the end of 2016.  

In autumn 2017 he began shooting his second feature film, "Das Leben meiner Tochter", about a father who illegally wants to get a donor heart for his daughter. The film was released in German cinemas in June 2019. Before that, in February 2019, his second novel, the humorous father-daughter story "Läuft bei uns", was published.
