After graduation, he remained professionally connected to Medienprojekt Wuppertal. He was involved in the development and realization of documentary films and led film workshops for children, young people and people with disabilities.
Bergfeld's documentaries include "Wenn das Wort in Mund zerbricht" (2011), a portrait of people of different ages who stutter, and "Spaßmacher" (2019), which explores three solo entertainers whose acts are similar but otherwise very different. In February 2020, Bergfeld will launch AugenBlicke, an inclusive film editorial team in Wuppertal, Germany, where people with disabilities can bring their ideas to life through film. In addition, he has always worked on documentary projects and short films directed by others.
Together with his long-time colleague Kim Münster, who co-produced "Spaßmacher", Sebastian Bergfeld co-directed the documentary "Spielen oder nicht" (2023), which follows two actresses with disabilities as they face various challenges at the beginning of their careers. The film had its world premiere at the Munich DOK.fest in May 2023 and will be released in October 2023.
