Biography

After studying in Munich, Livia Theuer began her career as an assistant director at various theaters. She gained experience as a dramaturg at the Schauspielhaus Bochum and the Berliner Schaubühne before establishing herself as a freelance dramaturg and writer for theater and film in 2002. Her work includes the development of productions in Berlin, Zurich, and Frankfurt, as well as dramaturgical consulting and the writing of synopses and screenplays. From 2001 to 2007 she worked as a scriptwriter for the children's and youth series "Schloss Einstein" on KiKa television, and in 2011 she collaborated with Rudolf Thome on the script for his film-within-a-film "Ins Blaue".

In Kassel, she received a teaching assignment in the film class of Klaus Stern at the Kunsthochschule. Since 2014, she has also been curating the Generation section of the Kasseler Dokfest organized by Filmladen Kassel. In 2023, Theuer's first work as a director, "Das Kino sind wir", premiered in cinemas. The award-winning documentary, which received the Hessian Film and Cinema Award 2023, explores the history of the Filmladen Kassel and delves into the dedicated cinema culture from the 1980s to the present through interviews, archival material and film excerpts.
