Born in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1956, von Trier is one of the founders of the Dogma 95 movement and co-founder of the Danish production company Zentropa. He studied film at the University of Copenhagen and directing at the National Film School of Denmark. He made his feature debut in 1984 with "The Element of Crime". He has won numerous international awards including those won for his films "Breaking the Waves","Dancer in the Dark","Antichrist" and "Melancholia". Von Trier’s television work includes the mini- series "The Kingdom"(1994-1997).
