Biography

Julius Weckauf was born on December 27, 2007, and grew up in a small town in the Ruhr region. He came to acting by applying with a video for the casting of the feature film "Der Junge muss an die frische Luft" ("All About Me") based on the autobiography of the same name by entertainer Hape Kerkeling. He was invited to the casting by director Caroline Link and promptly cast in the lead role of the young Kerkeling (who is also from the Ruhr region). The film opened in theaters at Christmas 2018. For this role, he received very good reviews and several awards: The Austrian Film Award Romy in the category Best Newcomer, at the New Faces Award a Special Jury Prize, at the Seattle International Film Festival the Golden Space Needle Award (SIFF) as Best Actor, from the Medien-Club München e.V. the Children's Media Award Der weiße Elefant as Best Newcomer and at the MDR Audience Award Die Goldene Henne the award as Rising Star of the Year 2019. In October of the same year, Weckauf presented the German Comedy Award in the category Best Comedy Show to Carolin Kebekus for her show "PussyTerror TV".

After this role, Weckauf joined the cast of Hermine Huntgeburth's "Lindenberg! Mach Dein Ding!" (start: 2020), a film biopic of rock singer Udo Lindenberg. In it, Weckauf plays Clemi, a close school friend of the young Udo. Also in 2020, he appeared in a supporting role in the hit comedy "Enkel für Anfänger" ("Granny Nanny"), followed by a leading role alongside Otto Waalkes in "Catweazle" (2021).

More serious fare was the drama "Der Pfad" ("The Path"), with Weckauf as the son of a critical journalist who is forced to flee from the Nazis in 1941. This film also won several awards, including the German Film Award for best children's and youth film.

In early 2023, the juvenile detective film "Die Drei ??? - Erbe des Drachen" based on the "The Three Investigators" book series was released in theaters. In it Weckauf played Justus Jonas (Jupiter Jones in the American version), one of the three young amateur detectives.
