Jörg Hartmann was born in Hagen on June 8 1969. He studied acting at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart, and subsequently joined the ensemble of the Staatstheater Meiningen (1994-1996). In 1999, following three years at the National Theatre in Mannheim, he moved to Berlin and was a featured player at the Schaubühne until 2009.
Since 2006, Hartmann has regularly appeared in TV productions, including the miniseries "Die Wölfe" (2009) and the "Tatort" episode "... es wird Trauer sein und Schmerz" (2009). In 2011, he won the German Television Award for his portrayal of an East-German secret police officer in the TV series "Weissensee". From 2009 until 2011, Hartmann was a regular cast member of the TV series "Bella Block". In 2012, he took on the role of police detective Peter Faber for the Dortmund edition of the popular "Tatort" series.
In 2013, he appeared opposite Dieter Hallervorden in the theatrical release "Sein letztes Rennen". In "Der blinde Fleck" ("The Blind Spot"), which opened in early 2014, Hartmann plays a lawyer who teams up with a journalist to investigate the background of the 1980 terror attack at the Oktoberfest in Munich.
