Ella Rumpf was born in Paris in 1995. Raised in Zurich, she made her screen debut in a small role in Friederike Jehn's "Draussen ist Sommer" (DE/CH 2012) starring Maria-Victoria Dragus and Nicolette Krebitz. The experience convinced Rumpf to pursue a film career, and from 2013 until 2015, she studied acting at the "Giles Foreman Centre for Acting" in London. Already during that time, she had her breakthrough in the multiple award-winning "Chrieg" (CH 2014): Her portrayal of a rebellious 19-year-old earned her rave reviews and a nomination for Best Female Supporting Actor at the Swiss Film Awards.
Following memorable turns in the Swiss "Tatort" episode "Kleine Prinzen" (CH 2016) and in the French horror movie "Grave" ("Raw", FR 2016), she played street smart and hard-hitting heroine in Jakob Lass' feminist buddy movie "Tiger Girl" (2017), which premiered at the 2017 Berlin IFF.
Rumpf next starred in the Swiss production "Die göttliche Ordnung" ("The Divine Order" CH 2017), in which she portrays a young woman who is imprisoned in 1971 on the grounds of "unconventional behavior" – and whose aunt (played by Marie Leuenberger) subsequently becomes a women's rights advocate.
