Biography
Bettina Borgfeld, born 1964 in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe, studied American Studies, Film and Theatre Studies and Art Education. From 1995 she worked as a camerawoman for the Reuters agency, among others. From 2004 she also began to shoot her own reportages and documentaries. Her long reportage "Schußwechsel" ("Shooting Under Fire", 2004, together with Sasha Mirzoeff) about Israeli and Palestinian war photographers in Jerusalem, was awarded the German Television Prize and the German Human Rights Prize.
Borgfeld made her cinema debut with the documentary "Raising Resistance" (DE/CH 2011, together with David Bernet) about the problems of farmers in developing countries, where large agricultural corporations aggressively promote the use of genetic engineering. At film+, the festival for film editing and montage art, "Raising Resistance" won the documentary film prize; at the Visions du Réel festival in Nyon (Switzerland) it was awarded the Prix SRG SSR for Best Film.
In 2014 Bettina Borgfeld began shooting the documentary film "Was kostet die Welt" ("The Price of Paradise"): For several years she observed a conflict on the tiny island of Sark in the English Channel, where two influential British billionaires caused discord through massive investments and initiatives. "Was kostet die Welt" premiered at the Leipzig DOK Festival and received very good reviews. The theatrical release followed in May 2019.
