Nina Proll

Biography

Nina Proll, born January 12, 1974, in Vienna, attended actor's training at the age of 16 and took singing and dancing lessons. After finishing her Matura, Proll went to "Performing Arts Studios" at Vereinigte Bühnen Wien and performed in musicals like "Jesus Christ Superstar", "Sweet Charity" and, in the leading role as Sally Bowles, in "Cabaret". She played her first movie parts in 1995 in Xaver Schwarzenberger's TV movies "Lovers" and "Das Kapital" (The Capital) and in Wolfgang Murnberger's "Auf Teufel komm raus" ("Come Heaven or Hell"). Her break-through performance Proll made in the Austrian comedy "Hinterholz 8" (1998).

After playing supporting parts in Barbara Albert's films "Sonnenflecken" and "Slidin' – Alles bunt und wunderbar" ("Slidin': All Bright and Wonderful"), Proll played the leading role of Jasmin in Albert's drama "Nordrand" ("Northern Skirts", 1999) which won her the Marcello Mastroianni award for "Best Young Actress" at the 56th Venice film festival.

Proll's movie appearances from recent years are very distinct from each other: She played in Murnberger's adaptation of the Wolf Haas novel "Komm, süßer Tod" ("Come Sweet Death", 2000), in Max Färberböck's "September" (2003), in Christian Alvart's "Antikörper" ("Antimatter", 2005), and in the kidnapper comedy "Die Quereinsteigerinnen" (2005) by Rainer Knepperges and Christian Mrasek. Furthermore, Proll convinced moviegoers in international projects like Jacques Deray's "Lettre d'une inconnue" ("Letter from an Unknown Woman").

The multi-talented Nina Proll is not only successful on stage and on the screen but has also published several CDs as singer, among them "12 Songs, nicht die schlechtesten" (2004).
