Summary
Wanja is hanging out with her friends. Every day, all day. Together they rebel against a society that strictly separates youth and adults and stream their activities live into the world. But one day, Wanja gets an opportunity to grow up: an algorithm has chosen her for a job in an architectural office. She is determined to use the privileges of the position to her advantage and accepts, catapulting herself into an entirely new everyday reality. The perfect job comes with the perfect apartment – order and aesthetics are now dominating her life. With each new days in this world, her amused interest turns to questioning and yearning for her old life.
Director Dennis Stormer has turned his debut film into a trans-medial project that is dominated by videos that were partially made or livestreamed during production by the cast on smartphones. With a decided authenticity, the film takes a close look at societal norms. "Youth Topia" has won the Audience Award at the Zurich Film Festival. It was produced by the sehstern Filmproduktion in Frankfurt and supported by HessenFilm.
