Where Old People Live

The 1931 documentary "Wo wohnen alte Leute" for the Dutch architect Mart Stam exhibits the modern and forward-looking architecture of the Budge home in Frankfurt. Its residents live in a comfortable in light-flooded environment with state-of-the-art single rooms. The film focuses on the presentation of an architecture that with its spatial structure supports the sociability of its residents.

Ella Bergmann-Michel wrote the script together with architect Mart Stam and directed the documentary herself. The film is intended to promote modern architecture and originated in the context of "Liga für den unabhängigen Film" (Independent Film League), a group that was founded in Frankfurt in 1931 and that produced documentary and artistic films as a counter part to entirely commercialised entertainment movies.
