Summary
Ain't Nothing Without You
Martha is a filmmaker in Hamburg. She is young, pretty and rich, but unhappy. She wishes she were poor, so that she could hate the rich, but her success as a filmmaker will not allow this to happen. She wants to shoot another movie, but has hit a complete mental block, most likely due to her neurotic tendencies. The senselessness of Martha's film is reflected through the film itself, acting as a form of self-mockery as "Nicht nichts ohne Dich" is a stream-of-consciousness film following the thoughts and ideas of Pia Frankenberg. The serious comedy echoes the feelings of senselessness that were very present in 1980s Germany and won the Max Ophüls Preis for Best German Newcomer Film in 1986.
