Summary
Kolyma – Road of Bones
Documentary about the region along the Kolyma highway that stretches 1,250 miles through Siberia and once connected a string of notorious gulags. In labour camps with nick-names such as 'Gate to Hell', prisoners had to dig for gold, diamonds and other raw materials under the most horrific conditions. Hundreds of thousands died and because of the many mass graves, Kolyma highway also used to be referred to as 'the longest cemetery in the world'. Filmmaker Stanisław Mucha traces the cruel history of this area and must realize that it is hardly talked about anymore today. Instead, he meets a vast variety of quirky characters, has absurd experiences and dives into a region that has a very special aura because of its dark past.
