Summary
Joan of Arc
France in the 15th century: The country is scarred by wars with England and internal power struggles. King Charles finds himself powerless in the face of the conditions of the time. Then a young woman named Joan suddenly appears among the people, claiming to have been sent by the archangel Gabriel to save France. At first, the king doubts her words, but he notices that the people are gaining new courage with this "help from God". With the battle cry "God and the Virgin!", the strengthened army victoriously goes into battle against the Anglo-Burgundian alliance. After Joan crowns King Charles in Reims, the plague breaks out in the country.
Now everyone blames Joan for the disaster: God is punishing the country for believing in a heretic; if Joan were truly a saint, she would be able to handle the plague. The dwindling faith weakens France, and England is on the rise again. Joan is executed as a witch. Years later, the sentence is overturned and Joan is declared a saint.
