Summary
Searching for Fritz Kann
In his documentary, Marcel Kolvenbach explores the story of his grandmother's first husband: Fritz Kann, a German Jew who was deported by the Nazis in 1942 and murdered in Poland - exactly nine months before Marcel Kolvenbach's father was born. For years, silence reigned in Kolvenbach's family about the filmmaker's presumed grandfather. Now he tries to find out everything about him. His research takes him from Düsseldorf to Poland to Argentina and back to East Berlin. He meets contemporary witnesses, historians and finally family members of Fritz Kann. With their help, Kolvenbach also hopes to answer the question of his actual relationship to his grandmother's murdered husband.
