Felix Randau was born in Emden in 1974. From 1993-1995, he studied German literature and ethnography at the University of Bonn, and worked as an intern at the city's state theatre. In 1995, he enrolled in the directing class at the Deutsche Film- und Fernehakademie Berlin (dffb). After working as an assistant director for Sören Voigt on "Tolle Lage" ("Perfect Sight") and Achim von Borries on "England!", as well as completing several own short films – among them "Something Stupid" and "Siemensstadt" –, he was nominated as Best Director at the First Steps Award for his feature film debut "Northern Star".

At the 2007 Munich Film Festival, Randau presented his sophomore feature "Die Anruferin" ("The Calling Game"), a psychological drama starring Valerie Koch, who won the Förderpreis Deutscher Film for Best Female Actor.

In late 2016, he began production on his next theatrical release "Der Mann aus dem Eis" ("Iceman"), which is set in the age and is a fictional imagination of the life story of "Ötzi", the oldest preserved mummy of the world. The film premiered at the 2017 Locarno Film Festival and was released in November that same year in Germany.
