Thomas Struck was born in Hamburg in 1943. After studying psychology and film history, he began making experimental films as a member of the Hamburg group Gruener Hase in 1965. From 1966 onwards, Struck produced documentary films for NDR, ARD and HR, including: "Damals in Hamburg - Die Beatles" (1966) and a full length documentary about the Spencer Davis Group (1967). In 1968, he was a co-founder of the Hamburger Filmemacher Cooperative, which organized the Hamburger Filmschau.

Later, he became a member of the Hamburger Filmbuero, a self-administrated funding office. In 1985, Struck directed the first European Low Budget Film Forum together with Claire Doutriaux and Dieter Kosslick, laying the foundations for the funding system of the European Film Distribution Organisation (efdo). In the 90s, Struck was also involved in multimedia events, including "Blaubarts Orchester", (1993) and "Einmal Casanova sein", (1997). In recent years, Struck has returned to longer documentary films, including "Ein Weinjahr" (1999) and his present project "Walk Don"t Walk" (2000).
