Holy Shit - Mit SCH#!$E die Welt retten
Holy Shit - Can Poop Save The World?
The documentary explores the question of whether and how human excrement could be used to grow food and thus improve global food security. Against the backdrop of the impending global fertilizer shortage, the filmmaker embarks on a journey from the Paris sewers to one of the world's largest sewage treatment plants in Chicago, talks to the "Poop Pirates" in Uganda, who explain to slum dwellers how they can produce safe compost from human faeces - but also shows that simple sewage sludge contains toxic substances and therefore must not be spread on fields without further treatment. In Hamburg and Geneva, he visits two residential areas that produce their own electricity and fertilizer in small sewage treatment plants.
