Stephanie Petrowitz, who was born in 1975, studied acting at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin from 1996 to 2000. While studying, she featured in student shorts and played on the stage in various theater productions. After graduating from university, Petrowitz became a member of the Hildesheim Stadttheater ensemble where she played until 2007. In addition, she took part in productions at the Junges Theater Bremen and the Berlin theaters Hebbel am Ufer and Sophiensäle.
Parallel to her work in theater, Petrowitz participated in the workshop "Camera Actor's Studio" at the Institut für Schauspiel, Film- und Fernsehberufe (iSFF) and continued featuring in short films. Michael Erler's mid-length docudrama "Ernst Thälmann – Wie er wirklich war" (2009) in which she played Rosa Thälmann marks her first appearance on television.
Stephanie Petrowitz's first leading role on the big screen was in the drama "Die Geschichte vom Astronauten", directed by Godehard Giese. She starred as a writer who is confronted with her own painful past when doing research for her new novel. The film premiered at the Filmfestival Max Ophüls Preis in 2015 and opened in German movie theaters in December that year. 2015 also saw Petrowitz feature in a recurring role as a correction officer in the first season of the prison series "Block B – Unter Arrest" which has been discontinued, however.
In addition to an increasing number of TV and film productions she is part of, Stephanie Petrowitz still works as a theater actress.
