Biography

Stéphane Bak was born on September 19, 1996 in the Paris suburb of Le Blanc-Mesnil. From the end of 2010, at the age of 14, he appeared as a stand-up comedian in small Parisian clubs and theatres, including the Palace and Theatre Trévise. After being expelled from school in 2011 for undisciplined behaviour, Bak took correspondence courses. At the end of 2011, he performed at the Montreux Comedy Festival (Switzerland); due to his career prospects, he received a permit from the French Social Welfare Office to pursue a full-time job despite his young age.

In the following years Bak made several successful appearances as a comedian and appeared more and more in TV series and movies. As a rebellious student, he was part of the main ensemble of the Banlieu drama "Les héritiers" (FR 2014) and played a supporting role in Paul Verhoeven's award-winning "Elle" (FR/DE/BE 2016) with Isabelle Huppert. Other works include the youth fantasy film "Seuls" (FR 2017) and André Téchiné's family and terrorism drama "L'adieu à la nuit" (FR 2019). Under the direction of Sebastian Schipper, Stéphane Bak played a leading role in "Roads" (DE/FR 2018), as a young Congolese who embarks on a journey to northern France together with a young Briton in search of his lost brother.
