Biography
Philipp Jedicke was born in 1977 in Kehl, Germany. He studied English, Romance Studies and Theater, Film and Television Studies at the University of Cologne from 2002 to 2006. Prior to that, he studied in Toronto for one year on a DAAD scholarship. During his studies, he completed journalistic internships in 2002/2003 at Arte TV in Strasbourg, France, and at the Arte editorial office of WDR in Cologne. Subsequently, he worked as a freelance journalist for WDR and joined the editorial team of "Rockpalast" in 2004.
After completing his studies, Jedicke continued to work as a freelance author and post-production manager (responsible for German, English and French language versions and language direction) for various television stations, film production companies, newspapers, magazines and websites. His focus has always been on music and culture. In addition to his work at WDR, where he joined the documentary department in 2011, he also wrote for renowned publications such as the Süddeutsche Zeitung and the music magazine Intro. In 2012, he took on the role of online editor at Deutsche Welle.
Jedicke directed his first documentary feature with "Shut Up and Play the Piano" (DE/FR/UK 2018), a portrait of the Canadian artist and entertainer Chilly Gonzales. For this film, he received the Förderpreis of the House of Documentary Films at the SWR Documentary Festival 2018. In 2020, he began work on his second film, "Vienna Calling" (DE/AT), which delves into the subcultural music scene of Vienna. The premiere took place in March 2023 at the Diagonale Festival in Graz, Austria. The German theatrical release was in November 2023.
