Biography
Noël Alpi was born in France on December 25, 1955. He studied law in Paris, but then turned to filmmaking. Self-taught, he made several short films and then made his feature film debut in 1997 with the coming-of-age film "Jeunesse." In the 2000s, he realized a number of medium-length documentaries and reportages, for example about Muslim wedding preparations ("Le Mariage dans l'Islam," 2003), seniors living independently ("Vivre chez soi." 2004), the contemporary relationship between Judaism and Christianity ("Juifs et chrétiens ensemble," 2008), actor Michael Lonsdale ("Rencontre avec Michael Lonsdale," 2011) and about mixed-religion couples ("Cafés-couples," 2014). He produced most of his work with his own company La Gaillarde Productions, which existed until 2016.
In 2019, Alpi began work on the feature film "Grand Ciel" ("Die Farbe des Windes"); the Franco-German co-production was about a German wind power engineer who gets caught in the middle of a controversial project in the French countryside and falls in love with a young man. The German theatrical release took place in August 2022.
