Maximilian Linz was born in Frankfurt am Main in 1984. He studied film studies at the Freie Universität Berlin and the Sorbonne Nouvelle Paris III. In 2008 he then started to study directing at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (DFFB), where he shot the short experimental film "Die Finanzen des Großherzogs Radikant Film" (2011). The film premiered in the competition of the Oberhausen Short Film Festival. His DFFB graduation film "Ich will mich nicht künstlich aufregen" ("Asta Upset"), a satire about Berlin's cultural scene, was shown at the Forum of the Berlinale 2014 and received very positive reviews.
In February 2017 Linz began shooting his second feature film "Weitermachen Sanssouci" ("Music and Apocalypse"), a satire about the transformation of the university into a turbo-capitalist research machine. As in his previous films, Sarah Ralfs played the leading role. "Weitermachen Sanssouci" premiered at the Forum of the Berlinale in 2019, followed by the theatrical release in October 2019.
In addition to his work as a filmmaker, Linz has also been working as a lecturer and publishing texts on film political and aesthetic topics.
