Biography

Max Gleschinski was born on December 30th, 1993, in Rostock, Germany. While still at school, he made first stop-motion experiments and created short films. After graduating from high school in 2012, he gained additional experience during a one-year internship at the Institute for New Media. Subsequently, he pursued his studies in English, American Studies, and Philosophy at the University of Rostock from 2013 to 2017.

Throughout this period, he continued his work as a filmmaker, producing several short films. In 2017, Max Gleschinski graduated and then co-founded Von Anfang Anders Filmproduktion with cinematographer Jean-Pierre Meyer-Gehrke. Together, they brought their debut feature film, "Kahlschlag" ("A Clear Felling", 2018), to life—a blend of thriller and romantic drama depicting the rivalry between two friends in love with the same woman during a fishing trip. This film received the German Cinema New Talent Award at the Hof International Film Festival in 2018, as well as other awards at smaller festivals. "Kahlschlag" was scheduled for theatrical release in March 2020.

After that, Gleschinksi was involved in the films of other directors as a producer, writer, actor or cinematographer. His own 18-minute short film "Lass Mörder sein" (2022) won the Indie Award at the Grenzland-Filmtage Selb. His second feature film, "Alaska" (2022), is about a woman in her forties who, after the death of her father, a former world-class canoeist from East Germany, wants to visit the places of her childhood by kayak. In January 2023, "Alaska" won the Best Feature Film award at the Max Ophüls Preis Film Festival, the Best Acting and Best Cinematography awards at the achtung berlin festival, and the NDR Directing Award at the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern 2023 Filmkunstfest. The theatrical release of "Alaska" was in September 2023.
