Biography

Matthias Luckey was born in Hamburg on 1982. His father is sculptor Klaus-Jürgen Luckey (1934-2001). Already as a child, he started acting in theatre productions and received vocal training at the children's choir of the Hamburg State Opera. He also worked as voice actor in several audio plays and appeared on stage at Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg.

After graduating from school, Luckey studied acting at the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst 'Ernst Busch' in Berlin from 2005 through 2009. During that time, he starred in stage productions of the bat-Studiotheater and the Deutsches Theater Berlin. He graduated with a diploma and was hired as an ensemble member of the Staatsschauspiel Dresden, where he appeared in lead or supporting roles in productions of "Woyzeck" (2011), the Kästner stage plays "Klaus im Schrank" (2013) and "Drei Männer im Schnee" (2015), as well as in Fallada's "Alone in Berlin" (2017).

Luckey left the Staatsschauspiel ensemble in 2017 and started working as a freelance actor with guest appearances at the Schauspielhaus Düsseldorf and other theatres.

Luckey had his first screen role in Rosa von Praunheim's docudrama "Männerfreundschaften" (2018), a film about Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's alleged homosexual experiences, in which Luckey portrayed the writer.
