Markus Sehr was born in Cologne in 1977. He studied Theater and Audiovisual Media, English, Political Science and Philosophy. He worked at an advertising agency from 1999-2004, and participated in a workshop at the New York Film Academy in 2003. He studied Directing at the ifs internationale filmschule koeln from 2004-2007. Together with Mathias Kraemer, he won the BMW Short Film Award 2005 for "Bazar" (2005).
His short films include: "Sugar" (2003), "Alles Korreckt" (2004), "Bazar" (2005), "Gott will es!" (2006), and "Natürliche Bedürfnisse" (2006). "Absolution" (2007), his graduation film, was followed by the feature films "Eine Insel namens Udo" (2011) and "Die Kleinen und die Bösen" (2015).
