Biography

Kathrin Jahrreiß was born in Gießen and grew up in Saarland, a state (Bundesland) in southwestern Germany. She studied to become a simultaneous interpreter in Heidelberg, completing her degree in 1997. Following her graduation, she worked for 20 years as a freelance interpreter for the news channel Phoenix. She also translated a novel and provided subtitles for films for the German-French cultural channel Arte. Additionally, Jahrreiß worked in various social fields, including elderly care, special education, and at both the Federal Office for Civil Service and the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs.  

Jahrreiß transitioned into documentary filmmaking through internships, workshops, and industry events. In 2015, she produced her first 30-minute documentary, "Reise nach Dresden", as a self-financed project. She went on to complete the Non-fiction Masterclass at the International Film School (ifs) in Cologne in 2019. In 2022, she began working on her feature film debut, "Der dritte Bruder" ("The Third Brother"), which explores the contrasting life paths of her grandfather and his two brothers. The film is set to premiere in German cinemas in April 2025.
