Kara Schröder, born 1990 in Karlsruhe, studied at the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst 'Ernst Busch' in Berlin from 2009 to 2014. During this time she appeared in productions at the Deutsches Theater Berlin, the BAT-Studiotheater and the Maxim Gorki Theater. After her graduation she stood on stage at the Schauspielhaus Vienna, at the Grand Theatre Luxembourg and at the Nibelungenfestspiele Worms. In 2017 she attended the acting school William Esper Studio in New York.
After several appearances in short and medium-length films, Schröder played a leading role in "Dreissig" ("Thirty"), a film about a group of friends in their late twenties who are dealing with an early midlife crisis. The shooting took place in 2015 already, but the film did not premiere until January 2019 at the Rotterdam Film Festival. In the same year Schröder starred in a leading role in "Frau Stern", as the granddaughter of an unconventional old lady nearing the end of her life. For her performance in this film she won Best Actress at the Achtung Berlin Festival.
