Kai Schumann, who was born in Dresden on July 28 1976, studied acting at the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst "Ernst Busch" in Berlin. From 1997 until 1999, he toured Europe as a cast member of Robert Wilson's operetta "Saints and Singing". After a stint at the Staatstheater Stuttgart (1999-2001), he was a company player at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg until 2005.
Schumann made his first TV appearances in 2001, and from 2007 on, he regularly starred in TV productions. In 2008, he had his breakthrough on the small screen with a regular role on the acclaimed TV series "Doctor's Diary". Schumann also starred in the miniseries "Klimawechsel" and had a recurring role as a coroner in the Leipzig edition of the "Tatort" series.
Among his other TV credits are the comedies "Küss dich reich" (2010) and "Geister all inclusive" (2011) and the drama "Die Löwin". In 2013, he got great reviews for his performance as the lead of the political TV satire "Der Minister", and in the same year, he starred as the titular hero in the TV series "Heldt".
Kai Schumann got his first leading role in a theatrical release with "Verfehlung" (2015). Starring opposite Sebastian Blomberg, he plays a priest who is accused of sexual abuse.
