Biography

Jonas Alexander Arnby was born on 10 January 1974 in Copenhagen, Denmark. He graduated from the alternative Danish film school Super16 in Copenhagen and attended the London School of Media, Film & Television Department in 2004. He directed several music videos (e.g. for Anne Trolle), commercials (e.g. Brooks Brothers, Peugot) and short films.  

Arnby's first full-length feature film "Når dyrene drømmer" ("When Animals Dream", DK 2014), a poetic mixture of horror film and coming-of-age story, celebrated its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in the Sémaine de la critique in 2014. Numerous other festival participations around the world followed. "Når dyrene drømmer" received excellent reviews and won several awards, including the director's award at the Athens International Film Festival (Greece); at the Danish Film Award 'Robert' the film was nominated in eleven categories.  

Arnby's second feature film "Suicide Tourist" (2019) was a European co-production. The mystery drama about a life-weary insurance agent who ends up in a hotel for assisted suicide during a research was premiered at the International Film Festival of Sitges (Spain). This film was also shown at several other festivals and was nominated for several film awards. The German theatrical release was in July 2020.
