Born 1989 in Sebdnitz (GDR), he first studied audiovisual media before spending a year in South Africa where he trained young filmmakers from the Khayelitsha Township in documentary filmmaking. This was followed by a degree in documentary filmmaking at the Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión in Cuba. He spent a year in Indonesia and in 2013 founded the production company Highway Spirits. He completed his postgraduate studies at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne. Florian Kunert works as an author and director. "Fortschritt im Tal der Ahnungslosen" is his first feature-length film.
