Florian Gaag was born in Waldsassen. From the age of 14 on, he grew up in Munich, where he became an active member of the local graffiti scene. From 1995 until 200, he studied film at the NYU Tisch School of the Arts. During that time, he worked on several short film productions. Back in Germany, he had jobs as production manager and assistant boom man for Bavaria-Film.
In 2004, Gaag shot his first feature-length film in Warsaw and Munich: The youth drama "Wholetrain" is set in the graffiti scene and premiered at the 2006 Berlin IFF. It went on to win several national and international awards, including the 2009 Grimme Award.
In 2016, Gaag released his sophomore feature with "LenaLove", in which a 16-year-old girl falls victim to cyber mobbing.
