Biography

Florentina Holzinger was born on January 8, 1986, in Vienna. She completed her studies in choreography at the School for New Dance Development (SNDO) at the Amsterdam University of the Arts in 2012. Her solo graduation piece "Silk" earned her the Prix Jardin d’Europe at the ImPulsTanz Festival in Vienna the same year.

In the years that followed, Holzinger created numerous productions, ranging from solo performances to large ensemble choreographies. Her radical presentations of the female body confront the bourgeois conventions of dance theater with plenty of nudity and the exploration of physical boundaries. They take up motifs from classical ballet, which they position between entertainment, trash and high culture with elements of acrobatics, martial arts, stunts and splatter.

In 2020, Holzinger’s production "Tanz" was invited to the Berliner Theatertreffen and garnered her increasing international attention. In 2021, René Pollesch brought her to the Volksbühne Berlin, where she directed the critically acclaimed and award-winning production "Ophelia’s Got Talent" (2022). Her first opera production, "SANCTA" (2024), premiered at the Mecklenburg State Theatre in Schwerin and was subsequently invited to the Wiener Festwochen, the Württemberg State Theatre in Stuttgart, the Volksbühne Berlin, as well as festivals in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Holzinger made her film acting debut in the drama "Mond" ("Moon", AT/DE 2024), portraying a martial arts trainer tasked with coaching three wealthy Jordanian sisters. What initially seems like a dream job soon takes an unsettling turn. The Locarno award-winning film was released in cinemas in March 2025.
