Biography

Christian Schneider, born 1951 in Hannover, studied philosophy, sociology, and psychology, and made his PhD in 1979.

From 1978 to 1980, he conducted art historical studies in Italy and subsequently worked as a lecturer at the psychological institute of Universität Hannover. In 1989, he went to Frankfurt"s Sigmund Freud Institut where he stayed until 2002. After further training in psycho-analysis he gained his license to practice as a psychotherapist in 1993. From 1990 to 1994, Christian Schneider was in charge of the research project about former students of Nazi Germany"s Nationalpolitische Erziehungsanstalten (Napola, National Political Institutes of Education) and the student"s descendants. Schneider himself started the project. In 2009, he also finished a documentary film about this topic together with Eduard Erne.

Schneider teaches at Universität Kassel and is a co-founder and board member of the International Study Group for Trauma, Violence, and Genocide.
