Dagmar Knoepfel was born in Heilbronn in 1956 and studied History of Art, Archaeology and Sociology in Munich. After graduating with a Master"s degree, she studied at the Academy of Television & Film (HFF) in Munich. She made a total six shorts there, most of them being literary adaptations, and she then worked as an assistant director, film editor, and author for Bavarian Television. After study visits to India and Italy, she received an artist"s grant for Venice in 1991 and made her first feature film "Brigitta" in 1994, followed by "Requiem for a Romantic Woman" ("Requiem für eine romantische Frau") in 1998 and "Through this Night" ("Durch diese Nacht sehe ich keinen einzigen Stern", 2005).
