Biography

Clara Stella Hüneke was born in Frankfurt am Main. She graduated from high school in 2011 and then studied video art at the Hochschule Darmstadt. During this time, she gained practical experience as an assistant director for Bernadette Knoller’s film "Ferien" in 2014. In 2015, she directed her bachelor’s film "Parko," a documentary about a commercial parking lot in Athens that, during the 2008 debt crisis, was transformed into a vibrant green park by neighbors and activists. The 37-minute film was shown at venues including the Kunsthalle Wien and the Kyiv Biennale.

In the following years, Hüneke worked as a junior producer at Vice Germany before enrolling in a directing program at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg in Ludwigsburg in 2018. As part of her studies, she created several short films, including the seven-minute animated film "Auf bald, deine Clara," which was featured at various international festivals. She completed her degree with the full-length documentary "Sisterqueens," which follows three young Berliners, aged nine to twelve, who form a hip-hop band. The film opened the CineKindl section at the 2024 Munich Film Festival and was nominated for Best Documentary at the 2024 Hessian Film Award. It will be released in theaters in March 2025.
