Biography
Beate Krist was born in the Tunisian capital Tunis on September 21, 1980. In 1999 she began studying theater in Mainz, but the following year she transferred to the Academy of Performing Arts in Ulm, where she studied acting until 2004. Also in 2004, she trained as a trainer at the Hochschule für Wirtschaft und Politik in Hamburg and began working as a coach and trainer for breathing, voice training, speaking, presence and rhetoric.
As an actress, Krist worked at Neues Schauspiel Erfurt ("Spring Awakening", 2007), Stadttheater Landshut ("Hansel and Gretel", 2007) and Theaterlabor Darmstadt ("God of Carnage", 2009). In 2009, together with Beate Stüsser, she founded the ensemble Theater 3D in Wiesbaden, with the aim of realizing her own ideas of sophisticated children's theater. For its prevention work with plays on topics such as abuse, bullying and cyberbullying, the ensemble won the Violence Prevention Award of the City of Darmstadt in 2017. In 2018, it received the Audience Award of the Kinderkulturtage Wiesbaden. Between 2009 and 2016, Krist also appeared in a number of plays at Theater am Puls in Schwetzingen, where she played lead roles in "The Glass Menagerie," "Mary Stuart" and "The Crucible."
Beate Krist had her first role as a film actress in the social drama "Danke tote Katze" ("Thanks Dead Cat", 2017), directed by her fellow actor Benjamin Martins. In it, she played a homeless woman who lovingly cares for her disabled son but has to fear the grip of the regulatory authorities. In 2018/2019, she appeared on stage with the Zettels Theater ensemble in "Hamlet" and "The Taming of the Shrew." In 2020, the production she directed, "#dichterliebe," was awarded the jury prize at the MADE.Festival in Fulda.
Again directed by Benjamin Martins, Krist played the female lead in the feature film "Schattenstunde" ("The Shadow Hour", 2021). The drama tells of the fate of Christian theologian and poet Jochen Klepper, his Jewish wife and their shared daughter, who faced increasing reprisals in Nazi Germany. The film premiered at the 2021 Munich Film Festival and won Best Feature Film at the First Steps Awards. It was released theatrically in January 2022.
