Biography
Arne Körner was born on May 4, 1986, in Hamburg, Germany. He first trained as a baker (2003–2006) before completing a program in film and sound engineering (2006–2008). In 2009, he began studying film at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts, where he earned his bachelor's degree in 2015 and his master's in 2020. He also received a scholarship to study at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris in 2013 and participated in Werner Herzog’s Rogue Film School in 2016.
During his studies, Körner directed several short fiction, documentary, and experimental films, some of which received festival awards.
Körner made his feature film debut with "The Bicycle" (2015), an unconventional love story that won the Jury Prize for student films at the Montréal World Film Festival in Canada. His second feature film, "Gasmann" ("Gasman"), was screened at various international festivals, including the Shanghai International Film Festival, and was released in cinemas in the summer of 2021. His third feature-length film, "Nonkonform", is a documentary portrait of prosecutor, eccentric actor, and author Dietrich Kuhlbrodt (*1932). The film premiered at the 2024 Hof International Film Festival and was released in theaters in February 2025.
In addition to his filmmaking, Arne Körner also works as a university lecturer.
