Biography

Andrea Štaka, born in 1973 in Lucerne (Switzerland) into a bosnian-croatic family, first studies photography at "London College of Printing". Due to her increasing interest in film, she goes to Zurich Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst and studies film and video from 1993 on. She graduates with the short film "Hotel Belgrad" which runs at international festivals, wins several prizes and starts as a supporting film in the theatres in 2000. In the same year Staka realises her first long documentary: "Yugodivas". After successful screenings at several festivals the film is nominated for Schweizer Filmpreis. Living in New York and Zurich since 1999, Staka starts planning her first feature film in 2002. "Das Fräulein" has its world premiere at Locarno Filmfestival and is awarded the "Golden Leopard" as "best film".
