Biography
Born in Rhineland-Palatinate, Almut Getto studied political science and communication studies at Munich’s Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität and graduated with a master’s degree. After her graduation, she initially worked for several years as a TV journalist. She then received a postgraduate scholarship at Cologne’s Kunsthochschule für Medien and studied film. Her graduation film "Spots & Stripes" won several awards. Since then, Almut Getto works as a writer, director, and dramatic advisor.
In 2001, she won the NRW promotional award in the category "Film". Furthermore, Getto won the award for "Best directing" at the Film Festival "Max Ophuels Prize" in Saarbrücken, the German Film Critics Award, and the German Film Award in Gold for "Best screenplay", among other awards, for her feature-length debut film "Fickende Fische" ("Do Fish Do It?").
In late 2009 Almut Getto’s second feature-length film opens in cinemas: The love story "Ganz nah bei Dir" ("Close to You"),starring Katharina Schüttler and Bastian Trost, premiered at the 2009 Film Festival "Max Ophuels Prize" and won the festival’s audience award. In May 2009, the film also won DEFA Foundation’s newcomer promotional award at Filmkunstfest Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
