Born in 1977 in Cologne in Germany, he took a degree in cultural studies and theatre studies/cultural communication at Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, followed by photography at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig. After a six-month traineeship at the Theater an der Ruhr in Mülheim, he began studying art and directing at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne. He joined the screenwriting programme at the Internationale Filmschule in Cologne in 2010.
