Elmar Fischer was born in 1968 and graduated from the German School of Journalism. Since 1992 he has been active as a producer, author and director for numerous German broadcasters. In 1995 he founded the production company Hier & Jetzt. His first film was the short "Echelon" (2001); "Fremder Freund" ("The Friend", 2003) was his first feature film and awarded the Förderpreis Deutscher Film and First Steps Award.
In the following years Fischer directed several TV productions, among them the thriller "Dornröschen erwacht" and two films of the series "Tatort". His thriller "Im Dschungel" (2010) was nominated for Grimme Preis and Günter-Rohrbach-Filmpreis. His romantic adventure movie "Offroad" opened in cinemas in January 2012.
