Biography
Torsten C. Fischer, born 1963 in Marl, studied art history, philosophy, and theatre studies, in Berlin. In 1989, he enrolled at Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin (dffb). "Die fliegenden Kinder", his first student film, already won the Max Ophuels prize for "best composition" in 1992. In 1995, Fischer graduated from dffb and continued his training as an assistant director for Dominik Graf's film "Dr. Knock". Fischer then made his feature film debut in 1997 with the TV crime film "Sperling und sein Spiel gegen alle" and made several successful TV movies, mainly crime films, in the following years.
Fischer has won the German TV prize as "best director" twice: In 2000 he was awarded for "Doppelter Einsatz: Blutroter Mond", and three years later for "Der Anwalt und sein Gast". In 2007, Fischer made his cinema debut with the romantic drama "Der Liebeswunsch" (Impossibly Yours) that was immediately nominated for two German film prizes in the categories "supporting actress" and "film editing".
