Josef von Sternberg was born in Vienna in 1894 and died in Hollywood in 1969. He studied Literature and earned a doctorate degree in Philosophy. His films include: "The Docks of New York" (1928), "Morroco" (1930), "Shanghai Express" (1932), "Macao" (1952), "Jet Pilot" (1953), "The Saga of Anatahan" (1957) and many more. "The Blue Angel" ("Der blaue Engel", 1930) was his only German film and was the breakthrough film for Marlene Dietrich in the USA.
