5 Träumer und ein Pferd

Summary

5 Dreamers and a Horse

In a magical snow-covered landscape, a rider skitters forward upon his horse, a dream-like image. But when does a dream become reality and what can we do to hasten the process? This documentary film follows its protagonists in Armenia as they attempt to realise their dreams. There is the elevator operator in a hospital, who is due to retire soon and would prefer to explore the cosmos rather than the same 15 floors over and over again. Even the specially installed monitor that plays videos about Valentina Tereshkova can't make up for the boredom and confinement. Then there is the young farmer and gifted equestrian who dreams of family life and a wife of his own, but the search for a bride is proving harder than he had imagined. And, finally, there are the two feminist ladies on a rooftop, who would simply like to be able to live their lives – alas, that is only possible outside of society, in their imaginations.

Full of warmth, the film shares the struggles of these diverse dreamers, detailing the obstacles they face, both inside and out, and their progress. For one, forward motion is a phone call, for the others, the founding of a national movement, Armenia's Velvet Revolution. In the end, a question hangs in the air: Can countries dream, and if so, what do they dream about?
