Film synopsis: Film adaptation of a production of the opera "Hoffmanns Erzählungen" by Jaques Offenbach at the Komische Oper in Berlin.

During a meeting with students in a wine tavern, Hoffmann starts dreaming about his mistress Stella, who is also desired by the city counciler Lindorf. At the table, a conversation unfolds about Hoffmann's various unhappy loves: Olympia, the mechanical but lifelike puppet, the talented singer Antonia, who falls for the promises of Doctor Mirakel, and Giulietta, who wants to exchange his mirror reflection for a diamond.

"Hoffmanns Erzählungen"  was digitized by Arthaus Musik as part of the film heritage funding program "Förderprogramm Filmerbe" (FFE) in 2019.
